Drunken Sailor Co Relish Their New Riggs Autopack Depositor- July 14th 2023
Drunken Sailor Canning Co. is a small food business located in Western Sydney, Australia. For the past 8 years, Drunken Sailor has been experimenting with various unique flavour combinations to create delicious jams, relishes, dukkah and mustards.
Originally established as a side venture operating from the home of business owner Justin Arnoux, Drunken Sailor is now a HACCP accredited manufacturer. They are a small, dedicated team of staff creating a quality range of small batch products which are available to retail and food service customers.
During a site visit to discuss Drunken Sailor’s automation requirements, Kaye Cooper from HBM (who represent Riggs Autopack in Australia) established that a Model 1000 depositor with direct feed to a cooking kettle outlet would solve many of her client’s challenges with regards to safety, product wastage and output.
Mr. Arnoux promptly ordered a Series 3 semi-automatic depositor which connects directly to Drunken Sailor’s 300 litre cooking kettle, meaning that manual loading of a product hopper is not required. This is especially beneficial as the products are hot.
Thanks to the high quality 316 stainless steel which Riggs Autopack uses on all contact parts, their range of Model 1000 depositors can effectively handle liquid, semi-liquid and suspended solid products up to 120°C making them ideal for hot-fill applications where maintaining high temperature during the filling process is critical.
Currently operating manually with a foot pedal, the Drunken Sailor's new depositor draws product straight from the kettle and doses product cleanly and accurately into a variety of containers. Future automation at Drunken Sailor will see the depositor operating over a conveyor to further streamline production and provide labour savings. Since the installation, Arnoux has been singing the praises of his new depositor, reporting immediate benefits:
Better temperature control from cooking to filling • Elimination of burn risks to the operator • Reduced product wastage
• Improved cleaning times • Decreased labour hours • Reduced production time
Drunken Sailor are enjoying the flexibility offered by their Model 1000 depositor, using the interchangeable piston barrels and cut-off valves supplied with the depositor, which caters for all their container formats and fill weights. These include 40g breakfast jars, 260g jars and 2.4kg food service buckets. For more information regarding Riggs Autopack depositors and food grade transfer pumps in Australia, please contact HBM:
